Industrial roofing in general typically tends to be flat or a low slope roof design. In general, there are five types of roofing that is used on industrial roofs.
5 Types of Industrial Roofs
Built Up Roofing
Built-up roofing (BUR) consists of multiple layers of roofing materials laminated together, typically alternating between bitumen and reinforcing fabrics. This creates a durable, waterproof membrane ideal for flat or low-slope industrial roofs.
Spray Foam Roofing
Spray foam roofing is applied as a liquid that expands into a solid foam, forming a seamless, insulating barrier. It easily covers roof penetrations like pipes and vents, offering excellent waterproofing and energy efficiency.
Modified Bitumen Roofing
Modified bitumen roofing includes layers of asphalt combined with plastic or rubber additives for enhanced durability and flexibility. It’s a popular choice for flat roofs due to its resistance to extreme weather and foot traffic.
Single Ply Roofing Membrane
Single ply membrane systems, such as TPO or EPDM, consist of four main components: insulation, a waterproof membrane (rubber or plastic), flashing, and adhesive. This system is lightweight, energy-efficient, and ideal for large industrial roofs.
Metal Roofing
Metal roofing is best suited for low-slope industrial roofs. Typically made of steel, aluminum, or copper, it’s known for its durability, fire resistance, and long lifespan. Metal roofs also offer a clean, modern aesthetic.
